Dirt from muddy roads, dust, frost, snow, and pollution can all affect the performance of your vehicle’s windscreen (windshield), headlamp or camera system(s). To help safeguard the full functionality of these components, Kautex Clear Vision System (CVS) has created solutions for each to ensure a clear view of the road ahead.
In order to help improve the performance of a Windscreen Washer Pump, Kautex Textron CVS commissioned 80/20 Engineering to provide some additional consultancy assistance to their ongoing R&D activity. Below is a summary from a CFD study investigating a complete pump windscreen washer system:
Windscreen Washer Pump
The development goal for this project was to assess what design changes could be made to the existing washer pump assembly to increase the pressure output by at least 10%. During the project, various simulations were run illustrating potential performance improvement in relation to certain manufacturing cost constraints.
The project also allowed Kautex Textron CVS the opportunity to validate the use of CFD for their development work in the future.
The CFD techniques helped design engineers at Kautex Textron CVS really understand why the pump has certain behavioural characteristics in that the fluid flow paths could be easily visualized, and re-circulation or restrictions better understood that reveal performance issues such as cavitation or low efficiency. This helps suggest design changes that reduce or even eliminates any problem area identified.
Using CFD simulation for flow performance prediction can dramatically reduce the number of physical prototypes and amount of test work required which will either reduce product development lead times, cost to the client or enhance the quality of the product delivered.
Safe, Efficient and Cost Effective
Kautex Textron CVS designs offer vehicle manufacturers practical and cost-effective solutions that will improve safety and the overall driving experience for the end user. Kautex Textron CVS collaborates with their customers to create the design and functionality that will best fit the requirements. As a result, they have developed an extensive product line that includes not only the wash nozzles, but the full system of reservoirs, sensors, inlets and pumps to provide the entire clear vision system.
80/20 Engineering is a specialist Fluid Flow Simulation and Thermal Analysis Consultancy Company. We have a long track record of helping companies implement ‘Design Friendly’ or ‘UpFront CFD‘ user environments that we believe will play an ever-increasing role within the product development process. However, often the client project demands are such that there is an urgent need for a design to be improved or a problem resolved. In these situations, we also have a team of experienced simulation engineers to call upon.
